Sustained Alpha-adrenergic Stimulation
نویسنده
چکیده
The effects of brief and sustained pharmacologic alpha-adrenergic stimulation on the coronary arterial circulation were compared in awake pigs. Phenylephrine was administered into the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) either as a bolus (eight pigs) or as a 15-minute infusion (eight pigs), with myocardial blood flow measured by the radioactive microsphere technique. Flow in the distribution in the LAD

Alpha 1-adrenoceptor-mediated phosphoinositide breakdown and inotropic response in rat left ventricular papillary muscles.
alpha 1-Adrenoceptor stimulation of rat left ventricular papillary muscles by phenylephrine in the presence of propranolol resulted in rapid breakdown of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI-4,5-P2) and a triphasic inotropic response in a concentration-dependent manner. The release of inositol trisphosphate (IP3) was maximum within 30 seconds and remained high for at least 30 minutes. The ...
متن کاملAlpha 2-Adrenergic stimulation is protective against ischemia-reperfusion-induced ventricular arrhythmias in vivo.
We previously reported that alpha(2)-adrenergic receptor (alpha(2)-AR) stimulation in Purkinje fibers in vitro prolongs action potential duration and suppresses beta-adrenergic-induced delayed afterdepolarizations and sustained triggered activities. We examined the effects of alpha(2)-AR stimulation on reperfusion-induced ventricular arrhythmias [ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation...
متن کاملTHE ROLE OF THE NORADRENERGIC SYSTEM IN ELECTRICAL STIMULATION-INDUCED ANALGESIA
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is an analgesia inducing method with increasing applications in clinical procedures. In this study we tried to evaluate the role of the adrenergic system and its different adrenoceptor subtypes in TENS-induced analgesia. Two types of low and high frequency electrical stimuli were used in rats through needle electrodes, inserted at the base ...
متن کاملSustained suppression of sympathetic activity and arterial pressure during chronic activation of the carotid baroreflex.
Following sinoaortic denervation, which eliminates arterial baroreceptor input into the brain, there are slowly developing adaptations that abolish initial sympathetic activation and hypertension. In comparison, electrical stimulation of the carotid sinus for 1 wk produces sustained reductions in sympathetic activity and arterial pressure. However, whether compensations occur subsequently to di...
متن کاملNorepinephrine-induced sustained inward current in brown fat cells: alpha(1)-mediated by nonselective cation channels.
The nature of the sustained norepinephrine-induced depolarization in brown fat cells was examined by patch-clamp techniques. Norepinephrine (NE) stimulation led to a whole cell current response consisting of two phases: a first inward current, lasting for only 1 min, and a sustained inward current, lasting as long as the adrenergic stimulation was maintained. The nature of the sustained current...
